Podcast: How To Embrace Your Core Values & Authenticity in Leadership
In the third episode of the Association Adviser podcast, Christine Shaw, CEO & President of Naylor Association Solutions, converses with Tracy Folkes Hanson, CAE, President & CEO of the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE), about the impact of core values and authenticity in leadership.
Tracy underscores the importance of a growth mindset in leadership, which she believes can transform an association into a culture that is both value-driven and authentic. She highlights the evolving nature of member engagement, stressing that associations must remain innovative and member-centric to stay relevant.
Mentorship is another key topic Tracy addresses, particularly the concept of reverse mentorship. She emphasizes that aspiring leaders can benefit greatly from diverse teams and varied perspectives, which enhance personal and organizational growth.
Effective leadership, according to Tracy, is deeply rooted in core values and community focus. She believes that listening, giving back, and understanding one’s strengths are essential for leading with authenticity and grace. Her advice for rising executives is to leverage their strengths and use their platform to uplift others.
Tracy Folkes Hanson joined CSAE as President & CEO in July 2017, bringing a wealth of experience from both the private and non-profit sectors. Her career includes roles at the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, MasterCard International, Kinark Child & Family Services, and The Arthritis Society. Tracy has also served as North Ward Councillor for Whitby Town Council and remains an active community leader.
