According to our third annual Association Communication Benchmarking Study<\/span>,<\/a> information about lobbying and advocacy efforts is the single most important topic for association leaders these days.<\/p>\n

More than half (52.1 percent) of the 910 execs who responded to this question in our comprehensive annual survey said that news about lobbying\/advocacy efforts<\/span> was “highly important” to them. That topped how to\/best practices\u00a0<\/span>(49.6 percent), industry news\/trends\u00a0<\/span>(45.6 percent) and career\/professional development<\/span> (41.5 percent).<\/p>\n

As recently as three years ago, the topics of lobbying and advocacy ranked behind such association information staples as industry news and trends. So what\u2019s driving this change?<\/div>\n

Karen Conlon, president of the California Association of Community Managers<\/a> said it\u2019s because there\u2019s a great deal of “misinformation\u2014even fabricated information” presented to legislators that it can easily turn into bad legislation. “This increases costs to consumers,” she added, even though some legislators “don\u2019t seem to care.”<\/p>\n
