Nearly 40 percent of respondents to the latest <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Association Adviser<\/span> poll say their membership has grown over the past three years, with nearly one in five respondents (18 percent) reporting robust membership increases of at least 10 percent.<\/p>\n<p>So that means the remaining 60 percent are in decline? Not so fast. Nearly half of respondents (43 percent) to our unscientific poll said membership has held steady since 2010 and only 18 percent indicated a membership decline.<br \/>\n<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.naylornetwork.com\/NAY-ADVISER\/assets\/aaenewssept2013bargraph.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"284\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Kristen Hartman, director of member value and experience at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ppa.com\" target=\"_blank\">Professional Photographers of America (PPA)<\/a>, said it\u2019s very important to keep &#8220;re-engaging with members, not just when they first join but throughout their complete member cycle.&#8221; Hartman said PPA has a new social platform that is widely used by both newer and more seasoned members. &#8220;It\u2019s been a great way to bridge the gap and get our members interacting and learning from each other,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Kristen shares more insights in Hank Berkowitz\u2019s <a title=\"How Smart Associations Grow Membership\" href=\"http:\/\/www.naylor.com\/associationadviser\/index.php\/how-smart-associations-grow-membership\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">feature story<\/span><\/a> in today\u2019s issue.<\/p>\n<p>Randi Busse, author of <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Rants &amp; Raves <\/span>and president of the customer-service training firm <a href=\"http:\/\/www.workdevgroup.com\" target=\"_blank\">Workforce Development Group<\/a>, is not convinced that 40 percent of associations have grown their membership over the past three years.
