Welcome to the third and final part of our three-part blog series of Implementing eLearning Into Your Association. We have looked beyond LMS features through the eyes of an instructional designer by considering three fundamental questions that will inform and shape the decision-making around choosing an LMS.<\/span><\/p>\n

We have asked two of the three core questions before choosing your LMS and implementing eLearning for an association. These questions help to outline your members\u2019 learning journey so you can lead them down the funnel in the learning direction you want them to go. So far, we\u2019ve\u00a0 answered these two questions:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. <\/b>What do you want your learner to know?\u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n
  2. <\/b>How will you know if they know it?<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Now, for our third and final question:\u00a0 \u201cWhat will you do if they don\u2019t?\u201d<\/b><\/h3>\n

    In a different era of education, you could hear teachers across the country far and wide say the infamous phrase, \u201cI taught it; they didn\u2019t learn it.\u201d Since those days, educators have learned that putting the responsibility for learning on the learner, rather than the instructor, is simply unhelpful and unrealistic.<\/span><\/p>\n

    When applying the \u201cI taught it, they didn\u2019t learn it,\u201d mindset, the instructor becomes dissociated from the results of their learning program.\u00a0 This mindset helps no one; webinar attendance goes down, tests get failed, skills aren\u2019t acquired, professional development requirements aren\u2019t met and ultimately, your association wastes thousands of dollars on development. Meanwhile, the instructor\/content developer says, \u201cI taught it (developed it), they just didn\u2019t learn it,\u201d followed by excuses like, \u201cWell, the learners are just \u2026 too busy, not engaged, not willing, not educated enough, too educated, not willing to spend\u2026\u201d and on and on.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    But let\u2019s be honest, if your learner does not learn, it\u2019s not the learners\u2019 fault. The responsibility for learning falls directly on the educator\u2019s materials, instructional strategy or the system (like the learning management system) the educator uses to give learners access to the material.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Great teachers meet their students in their place of need. They experiment by adjusting content, instructional methods, and evaluating results after every change to see if they can improve their results.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Meeting Your Association Learners In Their Space Of Need<\/b><\/h3>\n

    Let\u2019s take a look at a different mindset: \u201cHow will I meet my association learners\u2019 needs when they don\u2019t learn or achieve the outcome I desire.\u201d If a learner doesn\u2019t achieve your desired result, consider helping them by:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
